Emma Nystrom

I am a hometown girl who had the good fortune of being born and raised in Jackson, Wyoming.  After graduating from Jackson Hole Community School, I attended University of the Pacific, in Stockton, California.  Over the next four years I immersed myself in a love-hate relationship with the city of Stockton, and obtained a degree in International Studies and Spanish Linguistics.

Emma Nystrom Throughout my years at University of the Pacific, I worked as a volunteer outreach coordinator and manager of the Community Tutoring Program at the Center for Community Involvement (CCI). The CCI is a student-run non-profit resource center focused on education and service to the local community. During my junior year, I embarked on a yearlong journey studying and living in Valparaiso, Chile. It was a life changing experience. It expanded my love for the Spanish language, and instilled in me the desire to learn about different cultures and gain new perspectives.

I graduated from University of the Pacific in May 2011 with a double major in International Studies and Spanish, and a minor in Cultural Anthropology. I decided to move back to Jackson, and explore job opportunities working with the growing Hispanic Community. After working odd jobs for awhile, an opportunity developed with Teton County to become its first official Court Interpreter and Translator. I jumped at the chance. In the process of interpreting for Teton County, I became a State Certified Court Interpreter, interpreting in the Circuit, District, and Municipal Courts. I went on to work as a paralegal for a bilingual law firm in Jackson, practicing immigration law and criminal defense.

I have been working with the Hispanic community for a number of years now. My experiences at the Courthouse and with immigration law have given me the skills to assist with issues unique to the local Hispanic community, and I will be continuing that work with Cohen Law Office.

Outside of the office you can find me with my two dogs, Echo, a hyperactive Blue Heeler, and Ruby Rue, an adorably cute Chihuahua and Spaniel mix.  Last year I married the love of my life, another Jackson native, and we spend most of our free time outside with our dogs enjoying all that Jackson has to offer.
