Kenneth S Cohen

I was born and raised just outside New York City. I graduated from college in Maryland (with honors in Philosophy), and received my law degree from Brooklyn Law School. I spent three years as a lawyer in Washington DC with the federal government before moving to Jackson Hole in the mid-1970s.

I was appointed as the first Public Defender for Teton County, Wyoming in 1975, representing indigent clients in criminal cases ranging from shoplifting to manslaughter, and getting my first experience with judges and juries in Western Wyoming. After several years practicing criminal defense, I began handling divorce cases. In the process of representing hundreds of divorce clients, both men and women, mothers and fathers, I also represented numerous business owners, including architects, builders, restaurant owners, doctors, construction workers, real estate brokers, hairdressers, motel owners, interior designers, a world famous gun manufacturing company, and many other individuals and businesses.

For several years beginning in 2000, I wrote a column in the local newspaper on law related subjects. I love to write and was fortunate enough to win an award from the Wyoming Press Association for best column writing. When my editor called me to share the news, he could not resist admonishing me not to let it go to my head because it was about as impressive as winning a bull riding contest in New York City. There is a link on the website to about 30 of the articles. Although the articles were written to be informative and educational, the FDA has certified them as a non-addictive alternative to sleeping pills.

I am the father of three children scattered across the West: Seth Cohen, who, together with my daughter-in-law, Kimberly, is the founder of a wildly successful market research firm based in Santa Cruz; Brady Cohen, a fabulous executive chef in Phoenix, who was recently dubbed by Marie Claire, as one of the 10 most eligible bachelor chefs in the United States; and Emma Tully Cohen, my baby, who is a Wyoming certified Spanish interpreter for the Court System in Teton County, and who lives around the corner from me in Jackson.

I love to ski, hike, ride my fat tire bike, and hang with my dog Chester, who doubles as a lovable therapy dog most days at the office.
